Newport First Christian Church
About Us
Newport First Christian Church is a “non-denominational” church. This means that we are independent of any church hierarchy or denominational organization. Our church is governed by elders elected from our congregation. We simply believe that the church ought to reflect the practices and beliefs of the early, first-century church that we read about in the New Testament. We try to do what they did and be like them. We try not to be exclusive in any way. In fact, one of our “slogans” is that we seek to be “Christians only, but not the only Christians.”What we believe
We believe that Christ is the Head of His Church and, therefore, every Christian is a part of His body. We seek to speak where the Bible speaks, and remain silent where the Bible is silent. We strive to take the Bible and the Bible alone as our only rule of faith and practice. We refuse to impose upon people more than the Word of God asks of those who would follow Jesus, but we also refuse to cheapen the Grace of God by pretending that God does not really mean what He tells us in His Word.
We believe the Bible teaches that anyone can become a Christian - a follower of Jesus - by (1) believing in Him, (2) choosing to make Him paramount in one’s life, and (3) being ‘born again’ into a new life in God when one is baptized (immersed) into Him.
If you should have any questions about this process, we will gladly share with you what we believe the Bible teaches.809 SE Second Street, Newport, OR 97365
